Pysanky Egg Decorating Workshop

Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 1:00 pm
$5 per person

Pysanky is the ancient European art of egg decorating. The Ukrainian version is the
most famous and recognizable. The name comes from the Ukrainian verb pysaky,
which means
to write. A stylus, called a kistka, is used to write with wax on the
eggshell.
This is a wonderful chance to create art in the way of ancient peoples.

What you will need:
Bring three to six
blown-out eggs
Wear old clothing, a smock or an apron as this is a messy project.
This is not a class for children--adults ONLY, please.

Regularly Scheduled Performances

First Saturday of each month:  Eclectik Spirit
Third Saturday of each month:  The Whirling Doves

12 p.m.-2 p.m.

Classes

Balla Guerra with Creatrix Julia Zay
Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:30 beginning March 11, 2010
Cost: $15 per class, Pay-in-advance special rates may be available.

The Age of the Damsel in Distress has come to an end.
Welcome to the Era of the Dame...

The Level One Balla Guerra class is open to students who have at least some
previous bellydance experience either through one of our bellydance courses or
from another instructor.  This class covers the foot work and body work of Balla
Guerra to include all basic postures, steps, isolations and an introduction to combat
combos. You will learn several social combat dances that you can take home and
show your family and friends. This is a 12-week course and successful completion
is the pre-requisite for Balla Guerra: Level Two.  Students may repeat this course as
many times as necessary or desired to develop solid muscle memory and perfect
your sense of rhythm and timing.

To read more about Balla Guerra, please
visit the instructor's website.

Trance Techniques Workshop
Instructor: Julia Zay

Wednesdays from 6 until 8 p.m.
Ages 12 and up with an adult, $5 per class

This class will include trance techniques of the Mediterranean past and present.

You'll have the opportunity to learn rhythms, chants, dances and folklore from
across the Mediterranean from the Classical era to the modern day.

This year we'll be focusing heavily on frame drum techniques, prayer chants and
evocative dances. We have extra drums for those who need to borrow and lyric
sheets are provided for all chants. Please wear white if you can or at least a white
shirt, no black clothes. Feel free to bring donations of fruit, flowers, incense, sweets,
candles and coins for the trance altar.

Throughout the year you'll have many crafting opportunities as we'll do drum
decoration, trance gear decoration, henna, the occasional historical lecture and even
story telling. The mood is relaxed and a bit bawdy at times but such is the nature of
trance. We'll be working with chants in Latin, Greek, and many Romance dialects in
addition to Turkish, Armenian, Hebrew and more. You'll cover quite the range of
languages and cultures by the time we're done! Keep track of the class by visiting

our site
